Ski around the world

If there is something potentially positive coming from the cold, it is certainly snow, which means the ski season is open! Skiers can already enjoy their lucky days as we have already entered the dates on which you can enjoy this sport in many ski resorts.

Aspen snowmass, Colorado (USA)

Located in the White River National Park of Rocky Mountains. Arriving from Denver airport, from where you can take another plane to the resort.

Tracks ‒ Four-station complex with only one entrance connected by ski-bus:

Aspen Mountain: it has 76 tracks and none of them for beginners. An in-town setting, walkable to if you are at one of the hotels there. 

Aspen Highlands: the favorite among locals, with tracks such as Go-Go Gully, up to 48 percent descent.

Environment ‒ Aspen is a Victorian villa that shares its exclusive sporting interest with an important nightlife and culture. The city offers a large variety of stores and shops that fuse the tradition with latest trends.

Accommodation ‒ It is one of the places with the largest hotel offer per square meter. They all share an exquisite taste for the design and quality of their service. Little Nell is considered one of the best equipped for a stay dedicated to skiing, with 92 spacious rooms. St Regis Aspen Resort is a luxurious hotel located at the track base with a large spa and all amenities.

Chamonix (France)

Located in the Alps, at the foot of Mont Blanc. Arrive from Geneva airport,  100 kilometers from the station.

Tracks ‒ There are three main areas from which you can choose:

La Brévent/La Flégère: with tracks of all types and good views of Mont Blanc.

Le Tour/Vallorcine: excellent for intermediate skiers.

Lognan/Grands Montets: only for the best. In Aiguille du Midi, at 3,842 meters, there is the Blanche Valley, a descent of 24 km by glaciers and 2,800 meters of descent. 

Environment ‒ It has ceased to be a town to become a city of 12,000 inhabitants. The Aiguille du Midi cable car offers unique views of Mont Blanc. At the Le Refuge Payot you can buy delicatessen at a very affordable price: wines, cheeses, oils and chocolate.

Accommodation ‒ The hotel Hameau Albert I,  luxurious with its 36 rooms of antique wood and designer furniture. The Auberge du Bois Prin is a mountain hotel with 10 chalets overlooking Mont Blanc.

Val d’isère (France)

Located in the Alps. By plane to Paris or Lyon and car or bus to St. Maurice. From there 30 km that can be done by train. Bourg St. Maurice station is connected to many high-speed trains.

Tracks ‒ Val d’Isère make up with Tignes the familiar Espace Killy, known as the most beautiful skiing area of the world. The two mountains of Val d’Isère, Solaise and Bellevarde, offer from simple slopes for beginners to the most demanding off-piste routes. The Bellevarde track is one of those mythical descents for elite skiers

Environment ‒ When you return from the slopes you will find bars with good atmosphere and live music, boutiques and lively night parties. The Dick’s Tea Bar is the most famous bar in Val d’Isère. In the summer of 2011 they completed a full refurbishment, having redesigned the entire premises. True atmosphere begins at midnight.

Accommodation ‒ Hotel & Spa Le Savoie is a luxurious five-star hotel with a very creative sample of  events: stays in igloos or sledding with dogs. The spa will bring you back to full freshness. Avenue Lodge Hotel is five minutes from the slopes.

Zermatt (Switzerland)

Located in the highest part of Europe. Arrive by plane in Geneva and train to the specific station. In Zermatt you cannot drive a conventional car, but only electric and horse carriages.

Tracks ‒ Zermatt has three different domains connected:

Sunnegga: access to any of the tracks is possible through an underground funicular.

Gornergrat: take the train from the center of Zermatt, about forty minutes, with famous views throughout the journey.

Klein Matterhorn: more complicated clues. Up there is a glacier where you can ski all year.

Environment ‒ In a typically Swiss Alpine village, with beautiful wooden houses and large peaks around. The whole town is pedestrian and very quiet. If you want better atmosphere you will find it in the Klein Matterhorn cable car area. If there is something you should not miss in Zermatt is a full moon night.

Accommodation ‒ You can find a traditional luxury hotel with 133 rooms at Mont Cervin Palace. Very close to the train and shops. The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof has the characteristic of offering you climbing classes.

Sierra Nevada (Spain)

Located in Granada, 32 kilometers from the capital. Reachable by road or by train (AVE).

Track ‒ Located in the Sierra Nevada National Park, it is the southernmost ski resort in Europe. It consists of 79 tracks, among which stands out:

El Águila: from which you will see Morocco mountain chain Rif on clear days.

Borreguiles: it is the main area of the station, with tracks for all levels, very wide and well signposted.

La Laguna de las Yeguas: it has long red tracks.

Environment ‒ Sierra Nevada National Park is located two hours from the sea, the Costa del Sol and the snow almost in the same place. You can practice many activities without leaving the mountain, such as mountain biking, hiking and canyoning or go down south by car and enjoy sea waves. Pradollano is undoubtedly the perfect place to relax and enjoy gastronomy and night in Sierra Nevada. Nightclubs, bars and a fun atmosphere until late.

Accommodation ‒ Hotel HG Maribel is located at the foot of the slopes. It has 31 rooms. The five star Vincci Rumaykiyya Hotel and the highest hotel in Europe with access to slopes. Chairlift at the door.

Baqueira-Beret (Sapin)

Located in the Aran Valley (The Pyrenees), 165 kilometers from Lleida. It has no train station, so you have to get there by road.

Tracks ‒ One of the largest ski resorts in the Pyreneessplit into three sectors:

La Bonaigua: for the most expert skiers.

Beret: with wider snowboard tracks and beginner skiers.

Baqueira: with the greatest slope of the entire station. There are 120 kilometers of tracks with lots of services and a very good infrastructure.

Environment ‒ An area of valleys and lakes of great beauty, ideal for you to practice adventure and extreme sports: rafting, bungee jumping or parachuting. Cerer de Montardi is a restaurant with a great variety of dishes.

Accommodation ‒ One of the most exclusive hotels in Baqueira is Rafaelhoteles by La Pleta, it is located in the middle of nature, and has been able to integrate technological modernity and comfort. Hotel Tuc Blanc, is 25 meters from the slopes, with a great indoor pool, its three stars seem to fall short of the quality of their service.

Mont Tremblant (Canada)

Located in the region of Quebec, in the Laurentian mountain chain. To get from Montreal in a couple of hours by car.

Tracks ‒ It has 95, with all levels of difficulty, taking 600 hectares. It also has three huge snowboard parks. The black tracks are very demanding.

Environment ‒ All the nature that surrounds Mont Tremblant is fitted with lakes and forests plagued with trails. One of the most recommended activities is a dog sled ride. The town is a hotbed of activity. You can start at Au Grain de Café trying their delicious beaver tails, a typical sweet. Aux Truffes, by the chef Martin Faucher, is an original restaurant with an extensive and very elaborate menu of meats.

Accommodation ‒ One of the most popular hotels in Mont Tremblant is the Quintessence Hotel. Rooms overlook the lake and are very close to the slopes and the recently opened casino. The Fairmont Tremblant has 314 rooms, two restaurants and an outdoor pool.

Lech (Austria)

Located in the Alpine region of Arlberg, very close to Switzerland. The airports of Zurich or Munich are two hours away from the town.

Tracks ‒ Lech belongs to the great ski area of Alberg with Zürs and St. Anton. In Oberlech are the simplest tracks. In Kriegerhorn you will find red and blue tracks, property footprint and quite long, ideal for intermediate skiers. The off-piste are a paradise for the most expert, virgin slopes that in many cases require the presence of a guide. Not forgetting the descent of Valluga.

Environment ‒ One of the most elite stations in Europe, it lives up to its motto: ‘More space, more time’. Such an environmental concept that turns its visitors into authentic exclusive ones makes you penetrate a truly virgin nature, where it is not difficult for you to cross with wild animals. Lots of good restaurants andmore relaxed atmosphere than other Central European resorts.

Accommodation ‒ You should hire half a board at Goldener Berg Hotel because it allows you try all restaurants in the chain. It is one of the best furnished, you should not miss its heated pool with views. AlbergHotel is one of the best in Lech, five stars next to the slopes. Full spa and a good restaurant La Fenice. Next to him, the Hotel Gasthof Post also of five stars and with a markedly Tyrolean appearance.
