Netflix to release new action thriller with Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Fiennes and Gael Garcia Bernal leading the cast.

The Mother

The movie “The Mother” with Jennifer Lopez premieres on May 12, 2023 on Netflix. It is one of the streaming giant’s most anticipated movies for this season.

The feature film tells the story of a lethal assassin who is forced to come out of hiding and put herself in danger in front of all those who want to kill her. The reason for coming out of hiding is that she has to protect her daughter, whom she gave up for adoption years ago. Reunited after so long, the two women will be forced to flee and fight.

2022 Goya Awards

On February 12 at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Goya Awards ceremony will be held, presented by Dani de la Torre and will feature performances by Joaquín Sabina, Leiva and Luz Casal. As a novelty, Cate Blanchett will receive the first International Goya, which was born in recognition of the personalities who contribute to cinema as an art that unites cultures.

“El buen patrón” by Fernando León de Aranoa with 20 nominations, becomes the most nominated film in the history of the Goya Awards, a record held until now by “Días contados” by Imanol Uribe, with 19 nominations in 1994. The film also stood out in the list of winners of the Forqué awards, held on December 11.

“Maixabel” by Icíar Bollaín with 14 nominations, tells the story of Maixabel Lasa, who in 2000 loses her husband, Juan María Jáuregui, murdered by ETA. Eleven years later, one of the men who killed him asks to meet with her in prison.

“Parallel Mothers” by Pedro Almodóvar with 8 nominations, formed with the cast of actresses of Penélope Cruz, Milena Smit and Aitana Sánchez-Gijón.

“Mediterranean” by Marcel Barren’s with 7 nominations, which tells the story of the birth of Open Arms and its tireless work to save lives at sea.

“Libertad’ by Clara Roquet”, which starts as a favorite of the novel categories, and “Las leyes de la frontera” by Daniel Monzón, a tribute to the best quinqui cinema, both compete with 6 nominations.

Red carpet for the 2021 Oscar Awards

The favorite film with 10 nominations is “Mank” (A re-evaluation of Hollywood in the 1930s through the biting perspective of Herman J. Mankiewicz, screenwriter, social critic and alcoholic, as he rushes to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane for Orson Welles) nominations for best film, directing, leading actor and supporting actress.

With 6 nominations come other titles such as: “Nomadland”, “Minari. Story of My Family”, “The Father”, “The Trial of the Chicago 7”, “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “Sound of Metal”.

Netflix surprises with a total of 35 nominations. “Mank” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” are its two big bets.

The 2021 Golden Glober

The 2021 Golden Globes already have their nominees: films such as “Nomadland”, “Mank” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and series such as “The Crown”, “Lovecraft Country” and “Ted Lasso” stand out.

At the moment, there are two awards that we already have clear: the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement in Motion Pictures will go to Jane Fonda, while the Carol Burnett Award for Lifetime Achievement in Television has gone to Norman Lear.

The films with the most nominations were Adú with thirteen; Akelarre and Las niñas with nine; La boda de Rosa with eight; Black Beach with six; Ane and Sentimental with five; and El inconveniente, Historias lamentables, Los europeos, No matarás and Explota explota with three.

 

A total of 155 films released in our country between January 1 and December 31, 2020 were eligible for the 35th edition of the Goya Awards. Of these 155 productions, 82 are fiction, 72 are documentaries and 1 is animation. Also competing this year are 56 European films, 16 Ibero-American films and 35 short films, 15 fiction, 10 documentaries and 10 animated films.

Of the 155 stories nominated for the 35th edition of these awards, 57 are first works. As for the screenplays, 127 are original and 23 are adapted.
