The vessel&#8217;s name was <b>&#8220;Polaris&#8221;<\/b> but, eventually, the builders&#8217; financial problems led to the ship being <b>sold to the Anglo-Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton<\/b> for \u00a311,600. The first thing Shackleton did was to change the name of the ship to <b>&#8220;Endurance&#8221;, a name related to the family motto Fortitudine vincimus (Resisting we shall overcome)<\/b>.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a2d67c7 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a2d67c7\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-66caab3\" data-id=\"66caab3\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3b732f2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3b732f2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><b>Shackleton&#8217;s intention was to undertake the &#8220;Imperial Transantarctic Expedition&#8221;<\/b>. The ship sailed from Plymouth on August 9, 1914, bound for Buenos Aires. Shortly thereafter, and before reaching its destination, <b>the Endurance became trapped in the ice in Vahsel Bay. The pressure exerted by the ice sheets ended up destroying and engulfing the 40-meter-long ship.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7ea20b2 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"7ea20b2\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3a8f7b6\" data-id=\"3a8f7b6\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-093b4c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"093b4c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Once there, they rebuilt one of their small boats and <b>Shackleton along with 5 other<\/b> men and a small sextant as their only orientation tool, <b>sailed through the dangerous storms of the South Atlantic<\/b> and across the Drake Passage to South Georgia Island <b>in search of help<\/b>. Once there, they crossed the mountain range that ran along the island in just 36 hours to reach the whaling base at Grytviken, where they got help.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The twenty-two men who had remained on Elephant Island were rescued by a Chilean navy ship on August 30, 1916. The entire crew of the Endurance survived this unique mission in the history of polar exploration.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">More than a century after the disappearance of the Endurance, <b>in early March 2022, the wreck of the Endurance was discovered<\/b> by an expedition aboard the ship S. A.
