The NIO ET9 luxury electric crossover arrives

The NIO ET9 is the most luxurious model among all the electric cars of the Asian brand. A crossover for long trips thanks to its autonomy of more than 700 kilometers.

The new NIO ET9 also wants to stand out from all the competition and its more than five meters long, the more than three meters long wheelbase and the very large interior space for four, with separate seats in the back, is no longer enough. The great novelty of this NIO is the dynamic control of the chassis.

The NIO ET9 is currently the brand’s flagship and one of its most sophisticated electrics. The design remains true to its philosophy, a modern style with slim shell-shaped headlights on the edge of the hood and vertical low and high beams at the ends of the fenders, equipped with wide-angle Micro LED technology.

The ET9 is not just another Chinese luxury car. It is ambitious, a technological showcase and a clear challenge to the top European luxury brands.

General characteristics of the NIO ET9

As usual with NIO products, we have a vehicle with a fairly familiar design, clean lines, elegant and modern, with a front that is certainly the most similar to the rest of the family. A very generous interior space, especially in the rear seats, which are undoubtedly the protagonists of this car. So we are faced with a model that measures 5.3 meters long, 2.01 wide, 1.60 high and a generous battle of 3.25 meters, all measures that exceed those of, for example, a Mercedes EQS. Added to all this are details such as a retractable rear spoiler or huge 23-inch wheels with a floating logo to keep it always straight in the style of a Rolls-Royce.

As we said, the rear seats are the real attraction of this NIO ET9, a second row worthy of the best representation sedans. With two seats, or rather reclining chairs -up to 45 degrees- with 11 adjustments with a single click and all kinds of comfort functions. We also find right in the middle of its complete center console an 8-inch tablet screen, a smart refrigerator with electric opening and closing and two large 14.5-inch AMOLED screens behind the backs of the front seats.

The “Sky Island” panoramic roof features an illuminated cross beam. NIO has insulated the interior with tinted glass and also acoustically with a 360º active noise cancellation system, without forgetting the high level of comfort on board thanks to active suspension, complemented by a cable steering system for the front and electronic steering for the rear.

Its equipment also includes the level 3 autonomous driving “NOP+”, which automatically performs overtaking maneuvers. It can do this thanks to a powerful 5 millimeter chip with a 32-core CPU that is the brain. The NIO ET9 is the first of its models equipped with a powerful battery with a capacity of 150 kWh, achieving a range of no less than 700 kilometers on a single charge, its on-board charger supports a maximum power of 600 kW, so in just five minutes it recovers energy to travel 250 kilometers.

It features two electric motors, a 241-hp asynchronous front motor and a 456-hp permanent magnet synchronous rear motor, for a total of 697 horsepower. All this power is also accompanied at the dynamic level by an intelligent chassis system called Sky Ride, with a drive-by wire system and rear wheels steered at angles of up to 8.3º, and an active suspension system in which each shock absorber is independently controlled by a hydraulic system that, according to the Chinese brand, is more advanced than that of the new Porsche Panamera.
