The current production version of the BMW Concept XM will be introduced in 2022 and will celebrate BMW M’s 50th anniversary. The BMW XM will be a high-performance plug-in hybrid SUV offering an equally high level of exclusivity.
After several official previews and even a leak, the new BMW Concept XM has been unveiled. The unveiling of the long-awaited concept model has taken place and brings with it some very interesting new features. We must pay close attention to this concept car because it is the prelude to a new production model that will be signed by BMW M.
The design of the new BMW Concept XM
The new BMW Concept XM features a distinctive exterior design. It features the new, progressive front-end design of BMW’s luxury models. A concept that will be applied to production models for the first time in 2022. Starting our exterior review at the front, the first thing that catches the eye is the enormous grille made up of the distinctive kidneys. These are flanked by slim headlamps divided into two separate modules to form a new light signature.
Black highlights make their presence felt on the front grille. The typical M double louvres are on the inside of the grille to increase the sense of width. In addition, the new XM logo can also be found on the grille. Large air intakes show that this is a high-performance car.
The side view reveals its SUV stance but hints at a coupé influence. The stretched bonnet and roofline are two characteristic features of this model. The bodywork has a two-tone finish that combines Space Grey metallic and Gold Gronze with a matt finish. Also of note are the M exterior mirrors and 23-inch light-alloy wheels.
The shape of the rear lights and the way in which the rear window has been integrated are striking. The arrangement of the tailpipes integrated between the diffuser and the bumper is another of this model’s hallmarks.
The interior and technology of the new BMW Concept XM
The interior of the new XM Concept is immersed in a futuristic, technological atmosphere. BMW M features are evident in the driver-facing centre console. The brown leather upholstery with a vintage look is an element that connects with the sporting brand’s past. This is complemented by copper and carbon fibre.
The rear seats in the exclusive M Lounge provide a complete XM on-board experience. The rear of the passenger compartment is upholstered in Petrol-coloured upholstery. The rear seat cushion creates a space that invites you to relax and enjoy the ride. Special mention should also be made of the ambient lighting system, which can be configured in the three BMW M colours.
The “nerve centre” is the BMW Curved Display system. A grouping of screens to play the role of digital instrument cluster and display for the infotainment system. It is based on the latest generation of BMW iDrive with an M-specific version of the operating system.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain of the new BMW Concept XM
At the heart of the new XM Concept is an electrified powertrain. More specifically, the German company is opting for plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV). The production model previewed by this concept car will be BMW M’s first electrified vehicle in the high-performance segment. It is a model that will set the brand on the road to the future.
The plug-in hybrid drive system combines a V8 petrol engine with an electric engine. Maximum output will reach 750 hp and 1,000 Nm of peak torque. Equally important, the company points out that it has a 100% electric range of up to 80 kilometres. It will combine performance and efficiency.
