An open space house in Menorca decorated in white, blue and wood
Overlooking the sea, with a path to the pier, and a chromatic palette in white and cobalt. This is the house that Bárbara Aurell has renovated in the north of Menorca.
Interior designer Bárbara Aurell undertook the integral reform of a classic house in the north of the island of Menorca. Aurell supervised the interiors and studied for months “how the tenants wanted to live”. The needs were clear: an uncluttered, very practical and multipurpose house to accommodate all his family and friends; but, above all, it had to maintain the Menorcan essence. The architecture of the house had to be respected as much as possible. The first thing they did was to arrange the roofs and open large windows, with more open spaces inside and join them to the outside. Two ingenious ideas stand out: the kitchen island has glass doors that allow it to be opened to the living room. The predominant palette is wood combined with white and blue, which have become the main protagonists thanks to their characteristic cobalt blue.

A large porch of the house gives access to an overflowing blue pool that seems to fall into the sea.

A must have for the hosts was a participatory kitchen, and for this purpose a central island was created. It also has access to a small terrace for more intimate breakfasts.
A staircase was designed to be as light as possible, in white iron with a jute railing, in the purest island style. The staircase has turned out to be one of the most important and outstanding elements of the house, from where, in addition, you can see the sea; “it is wonderful to go up and down it,” says the interior designer.
Behind the staircase are two bedrooms. A master suite with access to the main terrace and a second bedroom ideal for three people.

White is the protagonist, along with the beautiful aluminum carpentry that closes the house in cobalt blue, a blue that is repeated in the Lampe Gras sconces that were placed throughout the facade. That blue is the line of union in the details of the house (mechanisms, decorative pillows, accessories) but the house breathes white.
The house has a small interior patio.
