Casa Palacio María Luisa, a mansion in the heart of Jerez

If there is a city of great stature, it is Jerez de la Frontera, cradle of the fino, the purebred Spanish horse, and flamenco. After being suspended for two years due to the pandemic, the city of Cádiz will shine again this May with the celebration of the Horse Fair (from the 7th to the 14th) and to enjoy it, there is no better place to stay than the Casa Palacio María Luisa, the only five-star Grand Luxe hotel located in the heart of the historic center.

The place that until recently was the Casino Jerezano, a meeting point of the aristocracy and high society, retains all the splendor of the historic palatial house of the early nineteenth century, which for over 200 years was the residence of the great families of Jerez.

Renovated by Grupo Kaizen Hotels through meticulous conservation and restoration work, the Casa Palacio María Luisa remains a luxurious place to stay for those who wish to discover Jerez and enjoy a wine tasting in its famous cellars, a horse show at its royal school or the joy and color of its festivities such as the spring fair.

Grupo Kaizen designed Casa Palacio María Luisa combining the recovery of a historic building, fully integrated into the city center, with the elegance and comfort required by tourists of the twenty-first century, as well as technological innovation to ensure energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, which are a maxim in the philosophy of the group.

To this end, the renovation, directed by the Sevillian architect Pedro Rodríguez de Pineda, was carried out in collaboration with the Municipal Heritage. Thus, through archaeological tastings, floor tiles, marble, moldings, floors, wooden coffered ceilings, plaster and other characteristic elements of the building have been recovered, which guests will find in every corner, making their stay unique. The restoration has been so careful that to recover the rear facade, the work of the famous architect Gómez Millán, the work of the stonemasons was done by hand.

The result is an exclusive and luxurious hotel, in keeping with the characteristics of a city like Jerez, with a total of 21 rooms: ten Premium, eight Delux, a Junior Suite and the María Luisa and Jerez Suites. All of them offer a sophisticated atmosphere and lighting – with large windows, a terrace or even a small patio – to enjoy a unique stay.

In the interior design, the classic and the contemporary blend harmoniously through the combination of furniture with antiques acquired in Paris and contemporary artworks. Casa Palacio María Luisa places great importance on art, not only as an integral part of the atmosphere of its rooms, but also because numerous exhibitions, conferences, book presentations and cultural events are held in its different rooms.

Each of the rooms has its own personality. The English Room, with its British decor, is the ideal place to enjoy a glass of brandy and spirits from the best bodegas in Jerez. The Judería Lounge is the perfect place to read, play board games or take care of business. Palo Cortao is a dining room reserved for private gatherings. If you want to entertain and dazzle your guests at a banquet or cultural event, there’s no better place than the Mozarabic Room, with its original coffered ceiling.

In addition to the interior rooms, the hotel has a private garden for large celebrations. The oldest araucaria tree in Jerez, a species of large pine tree native to the Pacific, is found in various parts of the city.

The gastronomic offer is the responsibility of the chef Alfonso Esquinas, who has developed a menu closely related to local products. To taste them, and of course to enjoy the city’s internationally renowned wines, the hotel has the T22 restaurant, and for a more informal, outdoor drink, there is also the snack bar La Terraza.

Many experiences are possible at the Casa Palacio María Luisa, making this five-star Grand Luxury Hotel the ideal accommodation to enjoy a stay in Jerez with all its elegance.
