River adventures

Water sports are the perfect option for those who enjoy the outdoors, speed and adventure, and above all they are a refreshing alternative in the summer season.

Water canyoning

Canyoning consists of descending canyons or ravines and riverbeds, either walking or swimming. Different methods and materials are used to carry it out.

It is considered one of the most complete adventures, since it combines adventure with contact with nature and caving and mountaineering techniques.

There are different levels to practice canyoning:

Basic: in this level you will be able to practice climbing and aquatic areas.

Medium: rappel and climbing with jumps to aquatic areas with calm waters for swimming.

High: climbing very steep vertical walls in rivers with very strong currents or waterfalls.

Where to practice water canyoning in Spain? There are many in Spain where it is possible to practice water canyoning. Granada, Valencia, Cuenca, in the Sierra de Guara and in the Pyrenees of Huesca, in Asturias, Cantabria…

Rafting

Rafting is a tourist activity that consists of descending whitewater rivers in a boat that withstands the blows. Usually between 4 and 8 people participate plus a monitor in each boat. The latter is in charge of steering the boat and the other crew members row using a single-bladed paddle.

Not all watercourses have the appropriate slope, sufficient flow and intrinsic characteristics, such as the presence of rapids, rocks, reliefs in the riverbed, etc. All these elements are essential for the water to be lively and for the boat to reach a sufficient speed.

Where to practice rafting in Spain? This sport can be practiced in rivers and reservoirs throughout Spain, including the Noguera Pallaresa river (Catalonia), Ulla river (Galicia), Gallego river (Aragonese Pyrenees), Guadalfeo river (Granada).

Kayak Descent

The kayaking activity consists of descending through aquatic areas with different difficulty levels, depending on the roughness of the water.

In this adventure we use an inflatable boat in which one or two people participate. The instructor in charge of supervising the activity will follow the participants in an individual boat.

Throughout a kayak trip, participants will have to go through rapids and waves.

Paddle surfing

Paddle surfing is one of the water sports that combines surfing and canoeing. It consists of moving standing on a larger board propelled by paddles.

River paddle surf boards also come in different sizes. Longer boards are used to cover longer distances and shorter boards are used in sections with more need for faster maneuvers and in fast stretches.

Hidrospeed

Hydrospeed consists of descending a river with the help of a hydro-sled. It bears some resemblance to snow sleds, but it is designed and adapted to whitewater rafting. It has handles to hold on to it and channels to support the arms.

Hydrospeed is a much more intense sport than rafting and, therefore, with a higher risk index. The river is full of obstacles, rocks, logs, etc., to which we must add the speed of the water, which makes all of them much more dangerous.

Where to practice hydrospeed in Spain? In rivers of level 3 or 4, with great water flow and an acceptable slope. In Spain the best rivers for the practice of this sport are those of the Pyrenees in the thawing season, and in Galicia in some sections of the Miño river as it passes through Arbo.
